How to read this table
- Rural residents: share of people living outside Census urban areas in 2020.
- Homes on satellite / no internet: share of households, Census American Community Survey 2025 (1-year). Small states have wider margins of error.
- BEAD allocation: the state's share of the $42.45 billion program, set by NTIA in June 2023. Not all of it goes to construction.
- BEAD locations, fiber and satellite shares: homes and businesses in the state's approved final plan, from NTIA's final-proposal overviews or the state broadband office, dated on each state guide. Totals include DC's row for completeness; DC has no rural population and no separate guide.
